Those aren\u2019t<br \/>\nquite hands they have.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n[ICE SMOTHERS THE FOREST. ABANDONED ]\n<p>Ice smothers the forest. Abandoned<br \/>\ncard catalogue standing in pasture<br \/>\nsnow. Swamp deer call together.<br \/>\nAnd someone hollers<br \/>\nwith them. Out of season, cardinals<br \/>\nscrew at the suet feeder, and flakes<br \/>\nemerge from afternoon shadow.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Adam Day is the author of <em>A Model of City in Civil War<\/em> (Sarabande Books), and is the recipient of a PSA Chapbook Fellowship for <em>Badger, Apocrypha<\/em>, and of a PEN Emerging Writers Award.
